The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy are working together to create Energy Star, a joint program that helps people like you and me save more money, and help the environment at the same time. They continuously publishing energy efficient products that we can use.

These dishwashers use less energy and water, hence it can save you up to $50 per year compared to using standard models. If you are still using an old dishwasher (built before 1994), then you should consider altering it with one of these Energy Star dishwashers.
